Androgyny Image

Frosty the Snowman made "his" first appearance in American pop culture as a song recorded by Gene Autry in 1950. He soon made his way into several other television adapatations as a standard part of Christmas media repertory. Frosty is part of the pantheon of other iconic androgynous figures who take their meaning from constant reiteration in various forms of popular media. These include Bigfoot, The Abominable Snowman and The Creature from the Black Lagoon. Frosty also has, despite his icy composition, a tendency to look, act and talk like a soft and fuzzy Teddy bear, another popular androgynous character.
